  • Changing sequence settings for editing?

Posted by Brad Hebert on April 6, 2012 at 10:35 pm

I’m familiar with offline editing, where the video files are smaller with matching sequence and then reconnect the hi-res footage later. But I’m curious if it’s ok to simply change the sequence setting, in my case from ProRes to HDV, in order to render faster while I’m editing, and then change the sequence back to ProRes and re-render for final output. Will that cause any problems? I’m staying 1080p/24, but just changing the codec. Also, there is chroma keying involved.

I would not recommend what you want to achieve. I would recomend ProRes the whole time. HDV is very processor intense due to its Long GOP codec.

Agreed. Rendering is ProRes gives better results, and should be quicker.

Thanks for the info. I’m also curious:

If my main sequence and footage is 1080 ProRes HQ (mainly because of green screen), but I have other low-quality home-footage to add. Can the home footage be 480p ProRes LT to save space? Or should it be converted to 1080 HQ?
