    Hello all,
I am a long time M100i (and before that Avid Media Composer) editor that is axiously awaiting the imminent arrival of a new G5 and FCP Studio. Our company after a long and painfully pondered period of discernment : ) has decided to hop onto the FCP bandwagon for a number of reaons, most importantly the shaky M100 future and unwillingness to risk the significant investment in a new board (required by the G5 architecture) under their present circumstances. Having said that I wanted to milk anyone’s experience on the following. Obviously my finished project archive is something I’d like to keep and be able to reference if I need to re-edit in the future. I only have the finished M100 sequence (program) file and assume that for it to be readable in FCP I should dig them out one by one and save them as an EDL. Correct? From reading the PDF FCP Studio Manual it looks like CMX 3600 is the best format to save these in. Any better ideas on this?

Though the M100 codec was superb, we are probably one of the few houses left that actually did a traditional on-line on most projects (we mostly do events and documentaries thus limited effects and graphics). That is we edit in low res video and lay off to Digital Beta with the finished audio in tact and then using the EDL and the ever trusty Sony BVE 910 re-assemble the show going SDI-SDI on 2 Digi Beta machines (90% cuts only). Now any of you with an eye tweeked for DigiBeta quality: will we be able to omit this online step? I have seen FCP demo’s but am very interested in your real-world experience as to the max quality FCP puts out. I will be using the AJA I/O. I don’t know if it makes a difference but I work exclusivly in PAL. (Evviva Europe!) I hope I haven’t been too long winded and once I am an established cow member I promise to be more sinthentic. I haven’t posted my computer specs but will do so when it’s actually up and running. Thanks for anyone who has time and also to all previous posts in this great community that helped lead us to this decision.
    Ciao, kim

Sone felice perche hai cambiato a FCP. Spero che ti piace Final Cut. Ho imparato come editare con FCP 4 anni fa e addesso sto lavorando con Avid Express e no mi piace. Benvenuto e buon lavoro!!!
