  Changing Multiclip Angle Replaces Multiclip with Source Clip

  I’ve been using FCP for about 1.5 years to edit multiclip videos. Today, I’m using FCP 7.0.2 to edit a three-angle multiclip. Whenever I change angles, the multiclip angle on my timeline is replaced by the original source clip for the new angle that I select. From that edit point forward, the multiclip is gone!

  This is true regardless of how I change angles. I’ve tried these techniques:
  1. Clicking the desired angle in the Viewer window, as one usually does when editing a multiclip on the timeline.
  2. Clicking the “Switch Video to Angle n toolbar button, which I’ve customized into the Sequence window’s toolbar.
  3. Clicking the “Switch Video to Next Angle” button in the Multiclip toolbar in the Viewer window.
  4. Right-clicking the current timeline clip and selecting Angle[n] > new angle in the context menu.

  For example, assume that the 3 clips from which I created my Multiclip are named Left, Center, and Right, which become Angle 1, Angle 2, and Angle 3, respectively. With “Left[1]-Multiclip 1” as my current angle on the timeline, I decide to cut or switch to Angle 3.

  After I do so, the timeline clip displays “Right”, when it should display “Right[1] – Multiclip 1”, and the Viewer window no longer shows the 3 angles that comprise the Multiclip. (It shows the “Right” clip, full-size.)

  I’d appreciate any advice about what is causing this unusual behavior, and how to get back to “normal” multiclip editing.
