  • Changing Master Tape Designations/Labels

I’m using Avid Express Pro. Someone digitized some video for this project and when they did so, they named some of the MASTER tape bins incorrectly (i.e., they labeled two separate master tape bins with the same tape number).

As a result, in one bin of selects I’ve got clips from two DIFFERENT tapes but they are labeled as though the came from the same master tape.

If I highlight the tape number in the select bin in an attempt to correct it, Avid won’t let me change it.

My question: How does one change tape numbers in a bin of selects?

(I’m sorry if I’m at all confusing with the terminology I’ve used above. I am brand-spankin’-new to Avid).

    Thank you.

    hghlight clips.

    Right click

    Select modify

    Scroll down and select source

Now pick the new tape name, or create one.

Step through several dialog boxes warning you that you are about to screw up your keycode, etc.

    Then you are done.

Hi — this works for source, but it seems that ‘Modify Time Code” is broken. Steps proceed as always, but net result is no change in start time code. This was once a good thing. (Avid MC version 2.7)

If I recall correctly (and I haven’t tried this on MC 2.7, so it might indeed be broken), but you have to unlink your clips before you can modify timecode. It will go through all the steps, give you all the warnings, but unless you’ve unlinked the clip it won’t affect it. I could be wrong, but that’s how I’m remembering right now.

Thank you, Michael. Unfortunately that won’t work with imported clips — once upon a time you could, I think, once you accepted all the multiple warnings…since Avid won’t import TC tracks it would be great to be able to do this. But then again I could have dreamt it…
