  • changing from 16:9 back to 4:3

I have a slight problem. I just finished working on a project that was shot and edited in 16:9, when I started another project in 4:3, the canvas window would not correct itself back to 4:3, so when I outputed the project it would be squeezed. I tried restarting and everything. Is this dilema a gliche in FCP? Am I missing something? Thanks

Next time make sure you change the Easy Set-Up to the proper one before opening a new project. For your current one, go to Sequence>Settings and uncheck the “Anamorphic 16:9” check box. Your Canvas window will reset to 4:3 (in FCP 5 anyway).

    Hope that helps.

    Great thanks!!
Now….how do I fix the video that I already edited in the sequence to go back to normal 4:3? Do I have to re-edit it? Hope not
    Thanks again.

i believe you have to crop it…..unless you want it letterboxed.

i always just export the sequence as a 16×9 clip, then re-import it into a 4×3 timeline, it gets the bars, and re-export it like that.

Is the video shot 4:3 or anamorphic?

If the video is shot 4:3, then you can option click the clips in the timeline and select item properties->format. You can then click the anamorphic so it’s NOT selected. In the browser, find the anamorphic checkbox and uncheck all the clips that are anamorphic. It’s a pain, but it’ll work. Also, hit apple-0 on your sequence and uncheck the anamorphic tickbox.

If the video is shot anamorphic, then you are going to have to do some scaling/cropping after digitizing it letterboxed.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.
What I did was I just hit match frame and replaced the clips in the sequence all over again. Thanks again
