  • Changing File Names after Importing Audio

I am importing over 100 .aiff files and converting them to MXF on the import. All the filenames on all the cds are the same – if I were to go into the bins and change the file names to something unique after the import would that cause problems down the road? Maybe in the sound mix?

No. The clip names in the bins are not important. Actually, Avid generates a lengthy number for each piece of media when captured or imported…it doesnt use the filename at all…(or the file itself for imported media—it creates a new file).

The only problem might be if you have to batch re-import it later and you dont know what track number it is. Make sure you include that in your naming scheme.

You could automate this a bit by ripping your CDs into iTunes first as it will check the internet and assign all the names. Then just import those libraries.
