  • changing a color on subject in video with Adobe Premiere Pro

    I am new to Adobe Premiere Pro and I am looking for help. I am trying to change the color of clothing on a character in a video, it’s actually a cartoon. I also want to change the hair color. Any advice and help would be very much appreciated.

    You can use the Change To Color effect.

    I’m still at a loss. I don’t quite understand the comments. Is there any more detail you could give me or is there a tutorial available?

    Did you try applying the effect?

    I did try but there are similar colors in the scene and it changed everything. If it helps in explaining what I am looking to do, for eample on YouTube there is a video from Carrie Underwood Ever Ever After. It has a cartoon figure in it at about 42 seconds in. I wanted to change that cartoon figure’s hair and dress colors. Is that even possible??? You can’t imagine how much I appreciate your assistance.

    If there are similar colors in other parts of the frame, then you must isolate the part that you want to change. You can use a garbage matte to do that in Premiere Pro, but that is very limited. Really, After Effects is much, much better for this kind of thing.

    Here are a couple of links to videos that show how to apply effects to just an actor’s face using After Effects:
    using Roto Brush
    using conventional rotoscoping

    Thanks – I will take a look at the links/videos. Another question related is with respect to how to use the video once it is finished. How do you export or save in a format that can be used in another program such as adding to a slide show as a video clip? I exported the video just as a trial as a mp4 format but the quality looked terrible. Any suggestions?

    If you’re delivering the file to someone else, ask them what format and codec they want. If you’re importing into another application, read its documentation and find out what format and codec it suggests.

    There is no one right answer about what the “best” output format is. I wrote this for After Effects, but the information is just as relevant for Premiere Pro:

    For instructions on rendering, encoding, and exporting from Premiere Pro, start here:

    I followed the video with the blurred actor’s face and was at a loss at the last step where the face is blurred and I want to change a color. I duplicated the layer, erased the rotor effect from the top layer but then I don’t know which color effect to use and how to change the color. Help…..please.

    Use the Change To Color effect where the tutorial uses the Mosaic effect.
