I’ve recently discovered that RED footage imported with log&transfer will register as file based and can be ‘batch captured’ again to do a high-res. It understands that these clips did not originate from tape, so it will instead open log and transfer to re-dig these clips.

How does this association work? More importantly, is there any way to set it for clips I imported different ways? To make it more practical, here are two situations where this could be very useful:

    1. I’m working on RED footage that I imported using RED Rushes or something other than log&transfer. Maybe this was to cut in SD and a non-prores codec, or any number of other reasons. The metadata is right, but the clips appear as tape based media.

    2. I’ve cut something in Avid or some other editor and want to finish in Color, so I pull in an EDL to FCP. The clips come in and they have the right metadata and everything, but they appear as tape based media.

Maybe this isn’t something that we can control yet, but it should be. Does anyone know of an option I’m overlooking, or a work around to reassign where FCP sees clips as originating from?

This seems to have been moved to basic by an admin. It does not belong in basic as it is not a basic question.
