Hi, I’m new to final cut and I was wondering if there is a way to select a bin containing stills and change the contents of all of the stills to just five seconds. I know I could I just reimport them by changing the preferences to 5 seconds but isn’t there a way to do this within final cut? Media 100 had this capability. Also is there an apply to all function in Final Cut. As in apply Dissolve transition to ALL EDIT points. Again media 100 had this function. Does Final cut?

[LandofNid] “As in apply Dissolve transition to ALL EDIT points.”

Edit your timeline with all cuts.
Make SURE all of your clips have enoughy OVERLAPPING media to allow for the proper transition time.

Make the “Default Transition” what you want to use between all of your clips.

Duplicate your timeline and save a “clean” version (or two) “just in case.”

Click on the timeline and SELECT ALL (so the entire timeline is selected).

“Drag and Drop” the entire timeline back into the Canvas Window area called “Overwrite with Transition”.

All of the cuts will take on the “Default Transition”.

The only way you can change the duration is to set your preferences and reimport the stills. From there you can drag the contents from the entire folder to your Canvas. Select Insert or Overwrite WITH Transition. Default Transition is Cross Disolve. That can be changed.

Select all your 10 sec. stills you wish to shorten in the bin and drag them to the timeline and then select all of them in the timeline>right click>duration and set to 5 seconds. This will then change all the selected stills to 5sec. Then drag them all back to the bin… and I usually make a new folder to drop them in… Usually faster than reimporting.
