change preview display size??
Posted by Yuriy Niksych on July 18, 2009 at 8:53 amright, how do I change the preview display size proportions so that it will actually match the proportions of the project?

July 18, 2009 at 11:35 amIf you want the preview display size show correctly
according to where you circled, you simply right click
on the preview window and uncheck
scale video to fit preview window. You can then manually
adjust the window until you see the full image or to
your liking.Steve Rhoden

July 18, 2009 at 2:14 pmJust to add to Mr. Rhoden’s post: double click the title bar to get “actual size” when the window is not docked (it is docked in your case, so Steve’s got you covered here, of course).

July 18, 2009 at 2:20 pmthanks! I’ve tried the things suggested above, however they didn’t solve my issue- I can NOT predict if there will be any letterboxing without first rendering the movie. This seems to be revolved around the “maintain aspect ration” checkbox in the video materials I’m using. For instance,2 identical videos except for resolution, one with “maintain aspect ratio” on and one off will look identical in the preview window, but when rendered the one without without “maintain aspect ratio” will be letterboxed and the other won’t be even though they look exactly the same in the preview window.

July 18, 2009 at 6:01 pmOh, what format are you rendering out to? As I lamented in another thread, I haven’t figured out how to predict whether WMV will screw up my render or not (re: black bars, squashed, whatever), but I always get what I see in the preview window when rendering out to QuickTime or MP4 (via Main Concept’s AVC).

The display readout that you circled will always display the resolution in square pixels regardless of the aspect of the project or media. So by definition, it is not supposed to match the project unless the project is also using square pixels. I see you are using 720×480 which never uses square pixels so the display readout will never match.

Why did you turn off Maintain Aspect Ratio for some video events? What problem are you trying to solve by doing that? If the two videos have different resolution then they might also have different aspects which is why turning off the maintain aspect switch will produce different results. Unless you want your video stretched and distorted, I would turn that switch back on and crop the videos to match aspect.
