Activity Forums VEGAS Pro change playback repeat points

Full video is 4:32. If I change playback rate to 4 I get the 3 loop points as expected.
I then revert to normal. Delete all and bring same video back in.
I then split the video at 10 seconds in. I delete the bit to the right.
I then change playback rate on this 10 second clip to 4.0. No loop points appear? Why is that?
If I drag end of clip to the right then one appears at 1:20 – How can I tell vegas pro it is just the 10 second clip I am interested in. It is putting the repeat points based on the full video.

Your original video footage of 10 seconds will always remain as 10 seconds as Vegas does not destroy or change the original video.
What you need to do is reduce that 10 second portion you want on the timeline and then copy and paste it next to the shortened clip.
The other way would be to render the shortened video and then insert that rendered video on the timeline. Then it would repeat.

Event is a container for a clip. You can trim it, split etc, but the original media remains untouched. You just change in/out points. In your case, right click the event and choose Create Subclip. This will create virtual 10-second clip.

I thought of the sub clip thing too but when I’ve created a sub clip in the past, and if for some reason the clip is cut, it can’t be found again in the explorer as it really isn’t a file on it’s own.

Another solution would be to highlight the area you want to loop, do a Ctrl-M and render to a new track. That way you’ll have an actual file which will loop.

Subclips won’t appear in the Explorer view as they are not separate files. However, you should see them in the Project Media window, for example if you create a subclip from an event that uses the 00001.MTS clip, you’ll get “00001.MTS – subclip 1” in the project media window. You can rename that. If you create a subclip by selecting a part of a clip in the trimmer, you’ll be asked for a name. I believe the subclip exists only within the project.

You can drop that subclip onto the timeline just like any other piece of media, and change the playback rate, stretch it and loop it as normal.

Thanks to you all – I have a better understanding of the timeline and events now. Its not as simple as I thought. I had originally tried to follow (using my own clips) 2 tutorials – https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/controlling_velocity_in_vegas_pro and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGqUcZJdero which I now think are over simplifying things (or I have misread them). Can you recommend a good site(s) for tutorials in Sony Vegas pro 11.
