Change file to .AVI?
I was wondering if it’s possible to compress a file into an .AVI or download some sort of upgrade for Final Cut compressor so that people who use windows can view files??

You can deliver AVI files out of Final Cut using Quicktime Conversion. Or straight out of Quicktime Pro but you’re fairly limited in terms of what codecs you can use.
That said, there’s no reason why people using windows can’t view Quicktime files or .mp4. If your windows viewers are asking for Divx files (which use the .avi extension) you’ll need to install the Divx codecs – https://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

Not sure why you’re limiting yourself to AVI. You need to know what purpose the file is going to be used for and what specific programs they’re using if it’s for some form of post production.
You can certainly make a WMV9 file with Episode or Flip4Mac (which works in Quicktime, FCP, Compressor, Squeeze).
MPEGStreamclip can create various AVI files. AVI is a wrapper, not a codec so an AVI is NOT guaranteed usable on Windows computers at all.
