hey guys I need you advice on this

I am working with a HUGE amount of clips of media that was shot on XDCAM EX, this is my first project and I can see that dealing with tapless media is very scary, I have 3 back ups on different raids of all teh XDCAm footage

I have transferred all the media to FCP, logged and organized ito folders, and I was wondering

should I change the names of the files to match the clips, so that I wont have HVN001 HVN002 ….
or shall I keep them that way, so that in case I am missing a clip I will be able to go to the XDCAM folder and compare !!

I am not sure which way is better

    IMO,

I would be VERY careful about EVER changing the original names of the DNG Files.

What I would do is just rename them in your project. I keep a column open and have the original name of the DNG FILE there. But you really dont even need that. You can find it on your drive by right clicking and say “reveal in finder”.

    hope that helps.

Probably doesn’t help, but in FCS3, you can change the names on import. The imported file keeps a clip and volume id so that it know where the original file came from.

From my reading, FCS2 seems to just keep the clip id, but I haven’t tested that at all.
