  • Change FCP text generator attribute on multiple clips

Posted by Julio Alvarez on October 20, 2008 at 3:19 pm

    Hello all…

I’m working on a training video and have dozens of text clips created with FCP’s text generator (specifically OUTLINE TEXT). I want to change the background opacity on many clips without doing them all individually. Is there a way to do this? Sort of like a ‘Paste Attributes’ for the text generator parameters (or a global change to all selected clips).

    Thanks for your help!

There was Traffic from xm|edit, which was designed to do this. I don’t know if they’re still in business.

You could try exporting an XML file of the sequence and correcting the items in a text editor. Any text editor that has a replace function should be able to do it pretty simply.

There is no function for doing this within FCP, though I think it’s often been requested. You might want to add your name to the list of those requesting the feature using Feedback.

    All the best,

    Tom

    Traffic looks pretty cool:

Thanks for both tips. Funny how things suddenly don’t look as bad as you thought they did once you realize you have to go on a mission. I wanted to lower the BG opacity from 88 to 67. But 88 seems to look OK now.

BTW, how exactly do I add my name to the growing chorus using Feedback? Do you mean on the Apple site or is there a petition already in the works?

    Thanks again.
