Ugh-Maybe I’m looking at this wrong:
I have an transition (dissolve for discussion)
Hit “cntrl-D” to see the duration, 12 frames.
I want it to be 1 sec so I type “1 . ” effect icon grows to reflect it has changed length
BUT it has not gone to 1 sec only 18 frames
I get that it does what it could based on frames available
That I’m good with, but there is no indication that it did not do 1 sec as I intended
or that it is now 18 frames! If I “cntr-D” again I see it is shy of the intention.

Double click the edit point to open up the precision editor. Verify that you have enough frames on BOTH sides of the transition. Try to grab the end of the transition and manually make it bigger. Also, what is the frame rate of the project?
