  • Change center of a clip?

Posted by Steve Brame on June 20, 2012 at 2:48 pm

The Basic 3D effect rotates the clip on it’s center axis. However, cropping that clip off center cause the rotation to appear to be off-center, even though it’s only still rotating on the un-cropped clip center. Is there any way to move the center registration so that a off-center cropped clip rotates on the new center?

How are you doing the cropping?

    Adjust the anchor point.
    1. Open the clip in the Effect Controls tab.
    2. Click on the “Motion” parameter. The wireframe and anchor point will now be visible.
    3. Adjust the anchor point controls to place it where you want.
    4. Reframe the clip, as desired.

Rotation, scale, etc. will be be affected according to the new anchor point.

Sorry…should have mentioned that I’d already tried moving the anchor point. The ‘Swivel’ action of the Basic 3D effect seems to ignore that, and still swivels on the actual center of the clip…not on the new anchor point.

    Steve,

    1) Crop your clip as desired
    2) Change the position of the cropped clip so that it’s centered in frame
    3) Right Click and nest that clip
    4) Add your Basic 3d to the nest clip on the timeline

now you should be able rotate properly….
