Hello everyone. I’m working on a vfx shot for a low budget shortfilm that involves a character that has a kind of chameleon tongue. We want to do an animation of a CG tongue that ballistically projects from the mouth of the character to grab some food on a table, just like a chameleon would feed.
I was wondering what would be the best aproach to set this kind o rig for the CG model of the tonge to achieve that kind of fast contracting and stretching movement of this kind of reptilian tongues. Looking and studying some video references of chameleons I see that their tongues are some kind of accordion spring mechanism.
Since I don’t have to much experience with rigging in cinema 4D I was looking for some help or guidance on what would be the best way to achieve this. I am trying with a basic IK joints rig that stretches like an accordion, but not getting the desired results when binding with the mesh.

    Working on Cinema 4D R17.

    Hi,

From what you’re explaining I’m imagining a sort of ‘Jar-Jar Binks’ character from Episode 1, where he’s eating from Anakin’s table. Is that the sort of thing you’ve got in mind?
This is pretty basic, but I think it should be roughly what you’re talking about doing.

    Hope it helps.

The thing is to add a lot of subdivisions so it stretches correctly.

Hey thank you very much for the help. Yes its exactly something like Jar-Jar Binks tongue, I totally forgot about that scene in Star Wars.

I already figured something with the Squash and Stretch parameters in the IK tag that I think it can work for what I want. I just dsicovered those parameters. thanks for your help and the example file.
