    Hey everyone,

I was at NAB this year and was watching a HDV promo of the new Z1 camera at the sony booth (the one you couldn’t miss). They had a DOP talking about shooting in terible light and it looked good, then he switched it over to cineframe 24 on 1080/60 and warned about the artifacts that would appear. He then went on to quickly mention something that you could do in post to get rid of that. (something about a 3:2:2 pulldown or something???? i dunno). I grabbed the HDV demo that they were giving out, took it home and checked it out. The sineframe 24 shots in that promo are flawless, no artifacts at all. Now I am wondering if this is a high end post thing or what. Can someone please help. thanks.

The camera “simulates” 24p… it really doesn’t shoot it. So I’m unaware of a “fix” but would be interested to find out what it may be. From your post it sounds like you capture with the “simulated” 24p at 29.97, then remove the pulldown pattern like it really WAS 24p, then it looks OK or something…

    Ya,
Not sure what he said or how they got rid of the artifacts on the promo DVD but it would be a great help if someone knew. Plus it would probably make a few more people interested in the Z1 since the biggest reason for people choosing the other cameras seems to be the lack of 24p.
