    Hello,

Our DP accidentally formatted a CF Card and then shot one video clip before realizing what happened. He was using a Canon 5D Mark iii. We used PhotoRec as well as StellerPhoenixPHotoRecovery.

Both programs have no issues recovering stills. However, the video plays back solid black and the audio is just static. It did recover a couple video clips from an older date that worked fine. But none of the ones needed from yesterday are working.

Has anyone else experienced this? If anyone has any tips to get us out of a re-shoot it would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Christopher Loveday

    Hi Christopher,

Any luck? I have the exact same problem (CF card formatted on 5D Mark iii). I’ve tried a bunch of recovery programs including Photorec and only get black video and static audio.

Hoping you’ve had better luck in the meantime!

We ended up sending our card to Gillware Data Recovery. They will pay the shipping and attempt to recover the footage for free. If they are able to recover thats when it gets expensive but they will give you a quote. We’ve used them a few times. Since you are able to get audio and black video they should be able to recover it.

    Best of luck
