    RECORDERS:
I shoot with Sony Z7s and Z5s onto Compact Flash card now use the Sony HVR-MRC1 recorder. Is it me or is it the camera or is it the recorder: at the end of each recorded file, there is a loss of audio in the last 1/2 second. Usually not an issue when shooting many takes. But IS an issue when recording long take as in a wedding or event. The recorder will start a new file every 20 minutes or 4.1GB file limit with no loss of video. You can butt them up and it plays smoothly between the “takes”. But it drops off the last 1/2 second of audio. Is this the camera, recorder or the CF card itself causing this or is this just normal on all cameras and recorders?

We do use tape as back up on long take shoots or another audio recording device. Just make more work in edit.

    READERS:
Using my HVR-MRC1 recorded as a transfer device to computer (via Firewire)it sucks because half the time (though the computer knows the device has been connected) it will not recognize the CF card. I shot a job Saturday using three SanDisk Extreme 32GB cards and then transferred the first 2 fine. The 3rd one has yet to be recognized. There IS data on it as i can play the files from within the camera. SO……… what is the best card reader for 32GB cards (USB)and maybe one that works with many other cards as well?

    Thanks.

Ken, I have the same problem with my Sony HVR-DR60 Hard Disk Recording Unit that I bought for my Sony HVR-Z1U. It is most annoying and so I have to use tape backup whenever I’m recording long events like stage shows.

I do not have the “warm fuzzies” about going tapeless and so I still use HDV cameras and probably will for a long time until they work all of these bugs out.

I know this doesn’t help you, but “misery does love company” 😉
