    Hi All,
I’ve read just about every post I can regarding this issue, but all to no avail.

Is Premiere’s XML export still broken? Here is what is happening:

Editing a timeline with 29.97 (sequence is set to 29.97fps under ‘timebase’, 30fps drop-frame under display timecode) 5D footage and 29.97 Panasonic HPX250/P2/MXF footage.

I export an FCP XML file. In Resolve I get the following error with most of the MXF files:
The Clip “00037W” can’t be linked to the media file “00037W.MXF” because the timecode extents do not match.
    1) I’ve tried changing the “calculate timecode at” under “conform options” for the whole project to 29.97fpsNDF.
    2) When I tell it to import the XML, “timeline framerate” is set to 29.97, and DF is checked, but both are grayed out and cannot be changed.
    3) When I try to open the thing in FCP7, I have similar issues–the same clips are disconnected, and when I try to reconnect, they give TC errors.

I assume this is premiere screwing something up, but I have no idea how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

By way of an update: I’ve tried a simple timeline using only the MXF footage. It doesn’t work. When I bring it into final cut, some of the clips are disconnected. When I try to reconnect, it tells me there is an issue with the “Media Start and End” and then I get this error:
“The file does not have proper content to reconnect to…”

So, it really looks like premiere is messing something up with my footage and XML export. Any ideas?? I’m desperate!

    Hi Justin,

to my knowledge, FCP 7 and Resolve don’t work with P2 mxf. You’ll need to log and transfer, or relink to a different media source.

I’m sure other users will have a good workflow but I don’t believe Premiere is at fault here.

Thanks Peter. I actually just realized I was being a dolt and making that mistake! The only problem is…there is no way to get my timeline into a format that Premiere can use.

If I were in FCP, I’d Media Manage and transcode–not possible in Premiere. I’d love to try Speed Grade, but I have a Black Magic output card, and no other way to monitor accurately. Do you have any suggestions, because I’m completely stuck.

If I can’t transcode my timeline to a codec that I can color…I’m not sure that the MPE is of any use to me.

I’m not an expert in this area but you could try this workflow since you’ve already started your project

    1. Export your Timeline out of Premiere without any transitions to a format Resolve can work with.
    2. Import to Resolve, use scene cut detection.
    3. Grade
    4. Export.
    5. Bring back into Premiere for the finish work.

or I’m not too familiar with this workflow but you can try putting your source clips in the media pool and force conform the clips.

For future project here’s a good workflow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-0S2MJT9wDY

Hopefully others with experience will chime in 😉

Thanks Peter, I appreciate your time!

Unfortunately, my timeline has transitions, so that won’t work (that was my initial plan, too). So, I ended up just exporting portions of the timeline, with handles of my own making.

The most frustrating part of this whole process is that I can’t Media Manage my sequence with a transcode. That would allow me to have a new project in Prores format, without having to deal with the time/space of transcoding ALL of my media.

Is there a feature of that type in the works by any chance? Otherwise, it basically makes the MPE useless for me.
