  • CC page turns (again) but new question

Posted by Scott Thomas on April 11, 2007 at 2:53 pm

Having read every post with the subject of page turns I still haven’t found the answer I need, so apologies for bringing this up again.

I need to peel pages off a calendar (with a ring bound top) in 3D space. Using CC Page turn, the page is cropped once it gets outside its boundaries.

I have looked at (and downloaded) Serge’s excellent 3D book, but although I can see the bezier warp on the layer it doesn’t work (when I imported the project AE said that the effect was missing – not in my version). Also this is a square move and I need a more curly one.

I am running AE 6.5 standard at the moment.

    So the questions are:

    1. Can CC Page turn have its boundaries expanded to the page can “fly off”?
    2. If not would an upgrade to the pro version (now it would be 7.0) help me out?
    3. If not 1 and 2, what can I buy or download that could give me the effect I need? Does Boris’ page turn expand outside the boundaries of the original?

    Thanks

    Scott

    Hello,

Why don’t you try putting your original layer into a pre-comp that is the same size of your composition and adding the Page Turn effect to the pre-comp. That should work. Also, the pro-version will not change CC Page Turn, but you do need the Pro version to use the Bezier Warp feature. Finally, you’ll want to play with the “Radius” property to increase the size of the curl.

Andrew Kramer has a great tutorial on how do some cool stuff with this effect:

There had to be a simple solution of course. I had tried this with no success, but I had forgotten to switch on the collapse transformations button on the pre-comp. I won’t say it looks great (I was doing this on an Abekas Genesis in the 80’s) but it does what the client asked for!

Thanks for a quick and easy solution.
