What’s the best way to cc in FCP and then have that translate over to AE via automatic duck? I can’t use FCPs 3 way cc, the render files don’t transfer over to AE via XML. Is Synthetic Aperture a good way to go? As I understand it, as long as AE has the plug in, then the settings should transfer over, no?

What about Final touch? How does that work out? I understand you use the XML to get back and forth from Final Touch to FCP, but how do the Final Touch renders pan out? I need to give my AE guy the final timeline and corresponding media via Automatic Duck’s XML export. When Final Touch renders, how do the files render out?

Just to let you know what we’re trying to do…more and more, our process is to cut for content in FCP, then hand it off to AE for the final design of the piece. I’d like to cc in FCP before the hand off to AE. Our AE guy is a really great designer, but refrains from cc as he’s not used to it. I’d like have my cc filters translate into his final comp.

    Thanks for any insight.

    Jeremy,

    Maybe try this.

If you want to do an AE workflow:

Media Manage the Project and Copy to a new project after you have CC’d in FCP.

Export all the CC’d sequences that require AE to your AE guy to do his thing.

Recut his renders back into your show.

    Option 2:

Media Manage the Project and Copy to a new project after you have CC’d in FCP.

Export all the CC’d sequences that require AE to your AE guy to do his thing.

Recut his renders back into your show.

Break the show into “reels” CC and autoduck to AE where each reel is redone in AE and the rerendered for final master.

If your AE work is text heavy Final TOuch may not be for you. It is a davinci style Color corrector with power windows and lots of opportunity to manipulate the image including film style effects, vignettes, grain etc. You just export XML to Final Touch. You work with the media in Real Time, but at the end the entire show needs to be rendered to New files. You then open that XML file in FCP and output your program after it automatically relinks to the new projct created in Final Touch.

If it is straight CC and look. Final Touch all the way.

If it is FX heavey AE. But you won’t get the same level of CC out of FCP as you do Final Touch.

    I can’t believe it’s not butter!

All graphics and effects will be added in AE, all I really need is to cc the clips before going out to AE. Once rendered out of AE, I have one giant movie. All I am adding is proper sound and music. I have set up an opportunity to get a demo dongle for Final Touch. I’ll see how it goes.

    Thanks for your input.
