CBR v VBR 2-pass for Blu-Ray
At what data rate does it make sense to switch from one to the other?
I am taping dancers. I have 1hr 44 minutes and would land about 28Mbps.
The question is.. would CBR or VBR be the better option? CBR is a quicker for transcoding, but do I lose detail in the moving dancers at the mentioned data rate?)Intel i7 920, Corsair 3x2gb= 6GB, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P , NVidia GTX 240, PP CS5 , Windows Win7 64bit
also PPro 1.5 on a separate WinXP HDD -

hi evan,
VBR make sence, when the target-bitrate gets to low for a CBR because of the duration of your discs content.if you are at 28MBit that´s far enough to get real good picture-results with H264. the max. video-bitrate for BD is 40MBit, but I would never go that high, as there are allways some peaks in the coding.
so you can choose the CBR-way.
if your taget-bitrate getting under 25Mbit I would think about changing to VBR.
most hollywood-films having a max. target-bitrate at approx. 25MBit.
