CatDV suitability for our project?
We shoot non-profit documentaries, currently a mix of .jpg stills, DV-AVI and AVCHD 1080i material. Our current project is about 5,000 stills, 330GB of AVI and 105GB of AVCHD (roughly 41 hr of video).
Final editing is in PP CS5, most of us are on PC/Windows 7.
We currently just use folders for organization, but want a better cataloging/tagging solution. We have a maximum of about 3-4 people working concurrently, not at a central location.
Can CatDV do this:
– Handle AVCHD material, or must we transcode it?
– tag/catalog and *rate* .jpg stills plus video clips?
– Allow editor to query via web interface and pull full-res content of query results? This includes stills plus video clips.
– Allow interns to assist with viewing/tagging/cataloging? If so must they be local to the material, or can it be done via web?Which version of CatDV is needed for this? Any optional or 3rd-party components suggested?

AVCHD is not currently well supported in Quicktime other than that yes to all of you workflow requirements. Contact me offline and we can go into more detail and connect you with a reseller in your area! -
Are you using Panasonic AVCHD?
I’ve done some shows with that and they have a pretty good transcoder that allows you to get AVC into MXF which makes for a much better master format. Then you get a pretty good automated workflow from there since CatDV is very friendly with P2.

No, Canon AVCHD. It’s not a big deal, we can transcode to a format that’s compatible with CatDV.
