June 9, 2011 at 9:36 pmIt will work with the old server, though some features (Enterprise Edition roles, saving ratings and events) require the new 6.6b2 server.

June 13, 2011 at 4:10 pmRolf, I just want to clear this up for folks.
If you upgrade your server software to the beta and then don’t buy CatDV 9, will you be able to downgrade the schema? Will they otherwise be able to return to their licensed version of Server or are they stuck with the new version of the server?

June 17, 2011 at 1:54 pmStrange, I’m sure I replied to this, but I don’t see my post.
You can’t downgrade the schema, but we usually make sure that we’ve got at least one version of backward and forward compatibilty between client and server. Most schema changes involve adding new tables or columns, so if your client doesn’t support them they’re simply not used. If necessary we could easily provide a script to manually downgrade a schema again but there has never been any particular need to do so.

June 28, 2011 at 5:27 pmGreetings gents. Great to see forward progress on the CatDV ecosystem.
Will the point release of the server require a paid upgrade? I’m guessing not as it seems we’ve only paid for major releases (eg. 5.x to 6.x), but thought I’d ask.
The “Events” feature is exciting, can’t wait to try. Thanks!

June 28, 2011 at 5:42 pmCurrently we don’t charge separately for server updates, as the server is there to support the client and new server “features” don’t make sense unless you have the corresponding client version to take advantage of them. Even though it’s primarily the client license code that enforces the version number, when you purchase an upgrade you’re actually purchasing an upgrade of the entire system, not just of the client application.

June 28, 2011 at 6:23 pmThanks for responding, Rolf. So, can we upgrade our clients from 8 to 9, and pay the client upgrade fee (we have 3 Pro seats)? Or, will that require a [larger] server upgrade also? I think I’m hearing you clearly but wanted to make sure.
