I know this sounds pretty weird, and I’m sure there are better ways of going about this, but I’ve already got my scene well rigged and don’t want to mess with it too much. I have shadows being cast on a background. Each light and the shadow casting object it strikes is slightly offset and given a different color for either the shadow or the light. Is there a way to create an intensely bright, almost glowing light over a black background? I’m casting the shadows on a massive sphere with a grey material, which gives a pretty effect, but I would rather them be cast over a black background. Of course, shadows can’t cast over black. Ideas?

Thanks to my future savior in advance…

The only thing I can think of is to render a shadow pass and invert it in post.

Technically you can cast shadows even on black object, they just remeian invisible to the eye. Anyway, it’s a moot point. Just like Adam said, render out separate shadow and light passes. It seems the trick for you will be to find the lights that affect your scene the most and isolate them into sensible groups.
