Hello, I want to re-create the Casino Royale opening in After Effects. I just want to know how to create the effect where there’s an explosion of cards – ( or the cards falling like rain, and the card icon tile explosion effect – (

I know how to tile a layer, but I can’t figure out how to make it into a radial/circle shape.
I’m also guessing that I need to use the plugin “Trapcode particular” for the card explosion effect.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

My solution for radial tiling attached.

The example is for 5 tiles, and the basic idea is to first do a polar-to-rectangular distortion on a single item, tile it horizontally and then do a rectangular-to-polar distortion to make it circular. The first distortion counteracts the second one so that the element retains its original shape.

The width of the intermediate comp is of key importance: It needs to match the number of element you are making. So, with this example I have a 3000×3000 comp as the initial comp, but a 600×3000 comp as the intermediate that gets the motion tile treatment (5*600 = 3000) for five tiles.

Also, it is easiest to animate the original element along the center line horizontally, as the polar-to-rect distortion places it in the horizontal center that way.

As for the card explosion, Particular is the way to go.
