    Hi –
you probably know this, and I don’t know what your drive array is, or which Sonnet card you are using, but if you are using an E4P or X4P, it takes time for the Port multiplier chassis to scan the 5 drives. This means that the drives won’t mount until the computer is booted up, sometimes for 30 -45 seconds. You can watch the lights cycle 1,2,3,4,5 – after all 5 light, the drive array mounts.

I bet the first thing Sonnet tells you to do is update your firmware (which I doubt will fix anything if you had a working system). Certainly do these tests with the card in slot 2 or 4, and with no Kona card in the system.

well after conferring with Sonnet, they suggest it’s the Western Digital Caviar SE16 drives I’m using that aren’t happy being used in a RAID. It makes as much sense as anything – I can’t get the RAID to show up at all anymore and there’s a long list of error messages in my console log.

I’m now awaiting a response from WD to see what they have to say…

I have noticed that PCI-E cards dont work well in G5’s.
I cannot get the Same Sonnet Card to show up on my G5, but it works flawlessly in a Mac Pro.

This might be because most G5’s are PC-X, with only the last of the series have PCI-E, whereas all Mac Pro’s are PCI native and have a slightly different motherboard. I feel like developers haven’t bothered testing their hardware on the g5, because their eye was on the Mac Pro line.
