I saw on Andrew Kramer’s web site – videocopilot.net on his demo reel a shot of him walking out onto the street and getting run over by a van. I was wanting to use that effect in my next film but have no idea how that is accomplished. I think it has something to do with masks but that’s all I can figure. Any one know of a tutorial out there I can learn this technique or how it’s done?

    Thanks,
    MIke

I haven’t seen the specific example you’re referring to, but I can tell you that it probably relies heavily on the action being quick. The subject is green-screened and keyed out, then animated to approximate the transfer of energy from the car to the person. You could probably get even more accurate results using the puppet tool in AE CS3 to bend the body as the impact occurs.
