Capturing XLH1 with Firewire.
So Im trying out a XLh1. Im currently running the Latest Version of FCP 5.1.1 (wich im told supports the 24f mode of this camera.) But when I connect Firewire from Camera to Computer, and try to capture.. I get the “Unable to initialize capture device. Device is not connected or the capture preset and device control preset are not set up correctly. This might also happen if you play DV footage in a HDV deck.” But im set up to hdv Fire wire basic 1080i . I shot 24f and 30f. Anyone have this trouble before? I’d appreciate any help.

Here’s a recent thread in the FCP forum that should explain a few things and hopefully will help you to get your 24f footage captured properly.

FCP v5.1 does not yet natively support the XL H1 in 24F Mode…
This is all changing rapidly because just this week during the IBC Expo in Amsterdam, Apple annouced that FCP version 5.1.2 is coming soon with native 24F support. FCP v5.1.2 will fully support capture and device control (with TimeCode), 24F editing and 24F output over firewire to the XL H1 (in addition to the current native support of 60i Mode).
Release date will most likely be October. This will most likely be a free update – only available to FCP5.1 owners. If v5.1 is installed on your Mac, you’ll simply run the software update app from the Apple menu to automatically update FCP 5.1 (or 5.1.1) to 5.1.2. This, of course, when the update is officially released – sometime shortly – in October.
Expect to see more news made available shortly from Canon and Apple.
