Capturing XL-H1 HDV
Can FCP 5.0 capture HDV footage from an XL-H1?

It depends on the Frame rate you recorded the HDV in the Canon and the capture method. 5.04 can capture 60i and 30F but not 24F through firewire. If you are using a Kona Card you might be able to come in through the SDI and convert the footage to some other CODEC.
