First let me just say that I don’t even know if what I’m trying to do is possible but I figured that it would be worth a try. I have an old RCA VHS video camcorder and I’m trying to get the VHS footage into FCP 6.0 to edit it together. I found this old converter box in my dad’s closet called a Dazzle Video Creater 150. It has RCA ports and a USB 2.0 port.

I plugged the RCA to camcorder cable from the camcorder to Dazzle and then the USB 2.0 from my Powermac to the Dazzle.

Is there anyway I can capture this footage or do I need something with Firewire?

You need firewire. And the Dazzle devices never worked with Macs with any stability.

Do you have a DV camera? Some allow you to play thru from a VHS deck to FCP. If not, you can look at the Canopus 110 AVCHD converters.

Hey thanks for the quick response Shane. I figured as much about the Dazzle but thought it was worth a try. I do have a DV camera: a Canon Optura 20. I don’t know if it will work through the camera but maybe through a VCR. I guess it’s worth a try though the canopus might be easier and more useful in the long run.

If I was going to go through the DV camera what would the workflow be?

Some cameras allow it, some don’t. I don’t know if your camera allows it. Gotta look at the menus and manual.
