capturing video problem
Hello everyone,
I have a problem regarding video capture. I have a mac pro with tiger and a Nvidia Ge Force 8600M GT 128 mb. When I try to capture from my HDV camera (Canon HV30) this is recognized by the computer and premiere (actually I can play/forward/rewind from the software) however the recorder is unable to do the job (it happens also using Imovie)
My graphic card was changed a while ago, because the original one was defective and it shut down at some point. I don’t know if it has something to do with my problem.

This camera is set by default to downconvert HDV to DV on the 1394 output. Your capture software will have device control, but will not capture HDV video if camera is outputting a DV signal.
Look in the camera menu system (in VTR mode) and set DV CONVT to OFF. Also, set “VCR” to HDV, rather than AUTO or DV.
Note that after changing menu setting in camera, it helps to power off camera, and close capture application. Next, power up camera so computer recognizes it as an HDV camera (not DV), then reopen capture application and try it.
This generally works for Adobe editors on the PC, should work for you as well if the “downconvert” is the issue.
