  Capturing Video from a camera

  I am in need to capture video from a HD tape. I am using a canon XH A1 to capture the video. I’m now using Premier CS6 version 2 because it worked on a previous computer. I just upgraded to a new IMAC. Now the capturing will not work. The I mac has only usb or thunderbolt ports. So I purchased a thunderbolt adapter that would accept a firewire connector. So I connected that to the camera. It allows me to control the camera but it will not let me capture the video from the tape. Does anyone have any suggestions either to fix this or a work around. Any help would be appreciated.
