capturing video
I have a sony hvr-v1u and am trying to capture HDV video with adobe premiere cs5. I am capturing it with firewire cable on a system running: windows 7 4GB ram, intel core 2 quad 9800 and a 8800GTS nvidea graphics card. I am able to capture video in DV format but when I try to do so in HDV format nothing shows up on the preview screen and when I press the record button it does nothing. could somebody please help me?

Are you running a full version or the trial?
Trial doesn’t include the MPEG support (it costs Adobe money to use the licence – so only paid full versions include it).

If you are changing the output in the menu from DV to HDV you need to have the cam disconnected when you change the menu setting, if its in the auto mode, put it into HDV mode with cam disconnected, its recommended to have the cam in a hard mode vice auto, and if the firewire is connected the setting will not change, another point when you get video on the preview screen it will go black when you start to capture HDV.
also its not a good idea to have the power on hotswapping the firewire cable, many a computer port and/or cam port has been blown doing this.
