  • Capturing Varricam at 24 or 30 fps, help

Posted by Stewart Mayer on April 7, 2005 at 12:48 pm

I’m using Premiere Pro and Decklink HD Pro (single link) and having trouble capturing 720p varricam footage from a 1200a deck. Everything works fine if I capture at 60fps, but I can’t capture 24 or 30 even though those are the frame rates i’ve shot. When capturing at 60fps, I see all the repeated frames, and since the final output is for standard def I’d like to get rid of all the repeated frames.

Anyone been able to do this yet on the windows platform?

    Thanks!

It should work with the 4.8 drivers or later. I don’t have a varicam to try so I can’t verify.

Here’s what I do. Capture it at 60fps like you’re doing. Then remove the redundant frames after it’s been captured. Use the Panasonic Final Cut Plugin to remove them. It’s on Panasonic’s web site and you can find the link from the AJ-HD1200’s product page. Doing this creates new media that will be 24 or 30. Then you import these and you’re good to go.

Well, I had tried that last week with the new 4.8 drivers, and i’m using the windows platform so that duplicate frame remover software won’t work for me. But i’m currious, does the plugin keep the timecode of the original clips?

I can set deck to upconvert to 1080i at 30fps, maybe i’ll have to do that to get true 30fps footage.
