capturing the computer screen and using that in premiere
Posted by Accountclosed on May 16, 2005 at 7:02 pmHello,
I’d like to capture the screen (mouse movements …) off my monitor in a high rez fashion so I could use that in my short film.
I recall ‘Closer’ had a scene where they did something like that. They had ‘Jude Law’ chatting online with ‘Clive Owens’ (i believe that’s his name). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks alot!

May 16, 2005 at 8:21 pmHi-lite the window on your Desktop that you want to capture and do Alt-PrintScreen, (the first key to the right of F12 key). Open the Paint program included in Windows and click on Edit > Paste: the captured window will show. Save it in the format of your choice: BMP and TIFF will do well. Import the resulting still in Premiere.

May 16, 2005 at 9:42 pmIt is one heck of a lot easier to just shoot it if it is on an LCD scree, or even on a CRT if your camera has a clear-scan setting.
But if you need movement, one easy way is to use Camtasia.

I believe that there is a free trial.

I just realized that you probably need to capture a movie, not stills.
There is no doubt that Camtasia is the tool to use to capture a video from the screen. If you want to save $$$, download Microsoft Media Encoder for free and try it. It will capture A/V from your desktop and produce good quality WMV clips.

May 16, 2005 at 11:58 pmI have done this before by using print screen, bringing this into premiere and then move a mouse pointer(graphic) around the screen.

May 18, 2005 at 3:32 pmHave you tried using Cam Studio? It’s a screen capture program.
