Hi, just running into some errors trying to cpature from DV thru the AJA io box. After a short session of ‘capture now’ there were 2 identical pop ups saying that there was a ‘tape error’ and that capture now had reached the end of process, and that I should check the VTR.

If anyone has dealt with this before, or knows what I’m going through, please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

    thx, Dez

In general, rather than using “capture Now”, you may get better results if you first mark the In-points and Out-points for short clips and enter them into the Browser.
THEN choose “Batch Capture” and let FCP cue the tape and Capture them.

If you find you still have Timecode problems on a given tape, the standard workaround is to make a FireWire copy of the whole tape to a new DV tape (using two camcorders or decks) then capturing only the new copy.

Are you capturing from a deck with RS-422 control or thru a deck with Firewire control but feeding the video into the Io? If you are using Firewire, make sure that you are using a different Firewire bus that what the Aja is using. Another device (deck) on the same bus as the Io will cause problems while capturing.
    Just a thought.

Well, I have the RS-422 cable installed, and VTR control thru the ‘Capture now’ window is available. like I said, it’s after a few seconds (30-60) the pop ups come on.

I have a firewire 400 cable connecting both the IO and the Tower. There is no firewire going into the DVdeck.

I don’t know, I’m still having these problems, after I looked at all my connections.

    Stumped!

One q: If you are capturing DV, why even use Io in the chain at all?
