  • Capturing on HDV – Final Cut not initializing device

I’m capturing from a Canon HV 20 on HDV and FCP won’t recognise the device. Using firewire and I have my settings on FCP to HDV 1080i50 on easy setup and tried switching the system over from cinematic HDV mode to HDV mode and it continues to say “Unable to initialize device…check setting etc..”
I cannot capture footage because of this and I don’t know which other settings I should change. Is there something else I should be doing to fix this?

I am not sure if you can actually change hte internal settings in the HV20 to 1080i50 so you may just have the wrong setting. I have an HV20 and I capture using the 1080i60 firewire setting in FCP. If you change to this setting, you might need to close FCP and restart it for FCP to recognize the HV20.

Does this should solve the issue?

If it doesn’t, then I know of a couple of settings in the HV20 to check, but let’s see if this works first.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help! I won’t have access to FCP until 9am tomorrow morning so I will try this when I get in and update you on whether it works or not.

    Thanks again!
