Capturing Large Analog Footage with Auto Break Points
I have several source tapes of 4 hours of analog footage that have no timecode. If I use FCP it appears that the only available option is to go thru an analog to digital converter or camera and use capture now but I’ll have one massive file. Is there a way to automate capturing the 4 hours into smaller more manageable sized files in FCP? I could manually hit the esc key every 30-45 minutes to stop the capture now and then restart it in order to break the 4 hours up but that’s hit or miss and tedious.
I only need to work in SD/DV.
Or, does anybody know of an inexpensive “capture only” program that will allow for pre-determined break points so that this process can be automated and I will end up with the 4 hours broken into 4-6 smaller QT files.
I really don’t have faith that 4 hours os capture time will go off without a hiccup and the resulting file is just too big.

Gary,
You can limit capture times in the “system settings” preferences. Check the scratch disk tab.
