  • Capturing HDV to FCP 7

I have tried two cameras with the goal of capturing HDV footage. The Sony FX1 and FCP 7 are reading each other, even the timecode window in FCP 7 is showing the running timecode from the camera. I have tried almost every possible combination of sequence, capture, and firewire setting possible in the A/V setting from FCP. Footage was recorded on JVC HDV tape and some footage has already been captured by another editor using sequence setting of DVCPro 72030p and capture HDV. Now, I tired to log just a clip and bring it with batch capture – no luck. And, capture with capture now is not working. So, the only thing missing is the image in the log and capture window – it runs on the camera, and reads timecode, as I said, on the computer. Any ideas? Thanks.

Amy- You must quit out of FCP BEFORE you connect the camera. Quit out of FCP>verify settings on camera are correct (HDV mode)>connect camera via firewire>Apple icon>more info>firewire. Can you see your camera? If yes launch FCP and select the proper setup for the camera. If you are still having issues you may have a firewire conflict. Disconnect all other firewire devices and proceed.

    Hi Jerry,
I had already tried to do it that way – connect the camera first, then open FCP. No luck. The funny thing is that the log and capture window shows timecode, so I know they (FCP and the camera) are working together. Just no image in the capture window no matter what I try. Any new ideas? Thanks, Amy
