  • Capturing HDV to FCP 5

Dear All, I have recently bought a semi-pro Sony HDV camera and upgraded my G4 laptop from FCP4.5HD to run FCP5. When I try to capture footage from camera to laptop everything seems to work fine (footage runs on capture viewer) until I stop the capture and try to view the captured footage in FCP. After capturing there is no media clip in browser and when I try to import the captured file from the capture scratch folder or even open the file in quicktime neither FCP or Quicktime recognise the format. What do I need to do to capture properly? Do I need to change my FCP settings? Does it matter I bought my camera in the US but am using FCP in England? Any help you can give would save me a massive headache. Thanks.

First of all, which camera and on what setting are you recording? The Z1 can do both 50i and 60i, but the FX only one of both. Second, how are you’re capture settings in FCP? same thing here, you have them for the 50i and 60 i recordings.

Thanks for responding. I am using a the semi-pro Sony HDV model (small one, not the Z1). I’ve tried to capture using Apple HDV Capture Codec for capturing because its the only codec where a capture window even appears. If I try to use any other codec including variations on the HDV 50 or 60 (which I assume to be PAL and NTSC) then the log and capture doesn’t open even though the computer says it is already open. Pretty weird?
