On acct of FCP not being able to capture HDV from the JVC GY-HD111 without dropping up to 10 secs on each timecode break, I’ve captured on Premiere (for Mac), with resultant mpeg + xmp files.

What is the correct workflow to bring these files into FCP to commence my edit?

You will have to convert everything to a proper FCP editing codec before you bring the files into FCP.

ProRes will be your best option.
