  • Capturing HDV from Z1P using FCP

    Hi,

I have a problem capturing HDV from the Z1P and any information or help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I’m still very new at HD since before this I’ve only been editing using SD formats.

I’m using a Mac Pro with a Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme and a sony Z1P (since I don’t have a tape deck yet), the camera is connected to the mac through the firewire but when I try to log and capture, it won’t work. When I hit “play” in FCP, the camera responds but there is no preview, I try to capture anyway but when the capture finishes the clip that it captures has nothing in it except black.
I’ve read the tutorial by Chris Poisson regarding capturing HDV but it doesn’t work with me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Dennis

Make sure that your camera is set up to be outputting HDV via firewire and not DV (in the Sony’s menus) and also make sure that you have set your Easy Setup in Final Cut Pro to HDV 1080i60 so that the proper firewire communication is set up. It sounds like maybe you haven’t done these things.

Hopefully that solves it for you.

    Paul,

Thanks for your feedback, I already set the camera and easy set up to HDV before but it still wasn’t working. Anyway, I saw a thread a while ago and tried it out, it was saying something about in the camera, turn of the iLink down conversion off, I did it and restarted final cut pro and it worked. I’m not really sure what iLink conversion is, would you mind shedding some light for me please. =)
