  • Capturing HDV and Format troubles.

    Hi All

I own a Canon XH-a1(PAL) and capture footage through my firewire connection. When I capture footage, I can choose only DV and HDV. Of course, I use the HDV setting, but i’m not able to do any further settings for capturing HDV.. My problem is that my captured footage comes out as format Mpeg. 2 and i’m not really fond of that. Especially now that my first music video had the attention of a label and they have requested for a Online Version.

    My first music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab76g47WZV0

I really hope that you guys are able helping me. 🙂

    Thank you, Charluck!

HDV is mpeg2 with 1440×1080 resolution.
Premiere captures as mpeg, HDV Split as m2t.
You can convert hdv to Cineform avi if you like. Very easy to edit.

“Neoscene” – about $130 – enables Cineform codec capture and is probably one of the best edit friendly codecs on the market. It boasts a number of conversion options and the ability to transcode in true 4:2:2 colour space (HDV is 4:2:0) which produces more vibrant colour in your application and enables better keying.

The downside is it’s not free.
