when I capture from HDV miniDV tape into Pro Res the file is listed as a document file in finder. Shouldn’t it have a .mov extension?

Depends on the exact version you’re using. It’s also an OS preference to display file extensions.

when I took the captured file and sent it via FTP to a client he couldn’t open it because it had a document extension. I didn’t even notice it was not a .mov extension. I just told him to rename it with .mov extension and it would play. Why didn’t FCP capture with a .mov extensiion and will I have to rename all the captured files that I FTP in the future? I sure hope not.
