  • Capturing HD thru firewire with QT Pro?

    Hi All

I have been able to capture DV out of our HVX200 through firewire to my G5 using QTPro 7.0.4 set to capture device native.

However, when I switch the camera to HD 720p , my QTPro captures are half size resolution.

I have FCP 5 and when I fire it up, I am able to capture 720p live through firewire, so I know it is not a codec issue …

My goal is the capture to a Powerbook (or MacBookPro) and have my shooters only need to start QT and hit the red button rather than have to fire up FCP and understand how to configure it.

Ultimately, I would like to just install the HD100 codecs on my capture MacBooks, install QTPro on them ($45 Canadian per machine), and have them as my capture stations that bring back footage to my main edit system.

Has anyone else had success with this ?

So a partial answer to my own question – capturing at 1080i, all the information is there, but for some reason QT saves it to show at one quarter size.

By going into movie properties and re-sizing it to 1920 by 1080, I get pretty pictures. Not sure why this happens, but at least it can work – saves me needing to install FCP on my capture laptops.

However, QTPro does not seem to understand 720p – lots of macro blocking on the capture with the blocks in the wrong places – even if I resize the capture.

    Anyone else trying this ?
