Capturing from sony v1u HD into premiere Pro
Hi:
I’m a relative newbie and this is my first question. Thank you for being a great resource!
I’m going to be editing my project in Premiere pro CS4 and want to make sure that I’m importing the footage correctly.
The footage is in hd format and I’d like to have the final in hd with the ability to convert to dv, etc.
When I capture the footage, what format should I bring it in as? I tried capturing from tape with the option HDV and it brought the footage in as mpeg files. However, I consulted with a professional and they said that that is a compressed format and not correct. Any suggestions?
Also, for editing purposes, I realize that these files are very large and difficult to handle. For example, one of my interviews is about 5 gigs and when I create a sequence the audo plays fine, but the video is choppy. Should I only bring in exactly the pieces of the interview that I want or bring in as a lower resolution? And if I bring it in as a lower resolution, is there an option in premiere pro to be able to replace those clips with the HD clips later.
So many questions :.) One more… I have some footage on a hard drive for the V1U, would I have to capture this footage the same as a video tape?
Thank you so much for any advice and input.
