    hello,
I am trying to understand the concept of capturing video from a dvd into my avid xprss, and then outputting to most likely a dvd. what do i need (software, dvdplayers, mojo?) to accomplish this. the reason i sound so lost is i work exclusively with digibeta, beta sp, or p2, so geting video from a dvd is something i need to understand.
i may have a freelance gig coming up that entails taking highlights of fights from about 40 dvds, edting the highlights into a “best of” sequence, and then most likely getting the product out onto a dvd for my client to distribute to his prosective clients. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and demystify the process for me.
    thanks,
    marc

    Hi Marc,

I can think of two ways.

You can hook up a DVD player just like any other deck, and capture straight from it. Obviously you won’t have deck control or timecode, but otherwise it’s the same as if you were capturing from a deck.

Or, you can get a program like Cinematize (www.miraizon.com), which will convert the DVD video to Quicktime, and import that into Avid. (This won’t work if the DVDs are copy protected.)

I’ve used Cinematize, and it’s great, but if you’re going to have 40 DVDs, it’d probably be faster to capture them.

    good luck,
    Carl
